Volunteer Stories

Shirley Reilman

At this year’s Repair Affair Shirley Reilman was a first time volunteer. She saw an advertisement in the newspaper and thought it would be “a nice way to spend a Saturday and do a good deed at the same time.” Shirley said that she very much enjoyed being able to help.

Her crew, which consisted of her daughter Dr. Linda Reilman and two granddaughters, Rachel and Cheryl Fladung, helped Bernice clean out her garage which she had not entered in years. Before they left for the day they volunteered to mend her rock wall as well even though it wasn’t part of their job.

Shirley is used to doing volunteer work with her granddaughters as part their school’s requirement. Repair Affair and PWC caught her eye because she thought it seemed like a neat idea and it was “something different,” than what they normally do. Shirley said she had a great experience and that she’s “ready to do it again.”
