Invisible Poor

According to the study, "The Invisible Poor 2007: Beyond the City and Into the Suburbs," more than 74,000 owner occupied households in the greater Cincinnati area earn less than $25,000 per year. People Working Cooperatively calls this group "The Invisible Poor."

Since 1975, PWC has revitalized and preserved home ownership for more than 175,000 homeowners in the region. As neighborhoods continue to deteriorate due to the mortgage crisis, PWC's services save not only homes, but entire neighborhoods.

The average income of a PWC client is $13,000 per year. Typically, our clients face hardship due to illness, death of a spouse or loved one, job loss or other life-altering events. What little income they do have is spent on food, housing and medication-with little left over for home repairs. Without the help of PWC, neglected home repairs can mean the difference between living safely in their home and losing their home entirely.
