Energy Conservation

People Working Cooperatively provides thousands of low-income homeowners with free weatherization services. In many cases PWC can help reduce home energy expenditures by as much as 35 percent, while improving the safety, comfort and living conditions of residents. Our energy conservation services have been recognized as one of the best in the United States.

Funded by Duke Energy, PWC's home weatherization program is available to all income-eligible Duke customers who pay their own heat. The program includes furnace cleaning and tuning, insulation inspection and installation, air sealing, carbon monoxide testing and more.

Below are basic income guidelines for qualification but this may vary by location and situation. Please contact us for qualification guidelines in your area.

For Duke Energy customers in Ohio, PWC also offers an Energy Maintenance Service Program (a part of its free weatherization program). This is a one-time maintenance review for low-income elderly and disabled homeowners.

Depending on income and need, services provided could include:

  • Furnace clean and tune up; hot water heater, dryer, and refrigerators inspection
  • Installation of low-flow shower heads, florescent light bulbs, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Insulation of water pipes
    • Customer education
    • Possible refrigerator replacement*

*Duke customers in Ohio and Kentucky who own their home and qualify for PWC's Weatherization Program could be eligible for a new refrigerator. PWC measures the electrical energy used by the appliance, if they exceed standards set by Duke, our professionals will replace it with a new, more energy efficient refrigerator.
