Our Mission: PWC performs essential repairs and services so that low-income homeowners can remain in their homes, living independently in a safe, sound environment.
People Working Cooperatively began in 1975 as a grass roots organization for the dual purpose of providing training and employment opportunities as well as minor home repair and energy conservation services for low-income individuals. The agency started with three volunteers and serviced 343 homeowners the first year.
Today, PWC employs more than 75 skilled tradesmen and administrative personnel with an annual operating budget of more than $9 million. Our staff and volunteers provide more than 10,000 home repairs, energy conservation and maintenance services annually.
Funding for our program comes from many sources. Our emergency and critical repair operations have been funded by the City of Cincinnati's Community Development Block Grants since 1979. Most of PWC's energy conservation services are funded by Duke Energy. PWC also receives funding from the United Way and other private contributors including:
- In Ohio: Ohio Department of Development, the State of Ohio, Hamilton County Department of Development, City of Middletown.
- In Kentucky: Commonwealth of Kentucky, Kentucky Housing Corporation, Campbell, Kenton, and Boone Counties of Kentucky, and other private contributions.
